2025 Porsche Taycan Review

The 2025 Porsche Taycan may come at a premium price, but you also get a lot for your money. The EV sedan offers effortless acceleration combined with straight-line performance and amazing reflexes. The four-door design makes it easy for family and friends to hop inside, but cargo space is limited, and rear-seat passengers aren’t going to enjoy a lot of legroom. However, the 2025 Taycan comes standard with an interactive and intuitive infotainment system. Even the EV’s range is exceptional, even if the Tesla Model S offers a little more.

Charging, Battery Life, and Battery Life

If you have range anxiety, don’t worry. The Taycan is aiming for a maximum 340-mile range on a single charge. The 2024 Taycan boasted between 206 and 246 miles, so adding another 80 or so isn’t a stretch, especially with its larger battery and improved onboard charger. With a faster charging speed to rival the Tesla Model S, you don’t need to worry about running out of battery power before reaching your destination, or at least the next public DC fast charger.

In performance tests, the battery chargers from 8% to 80% in around 17 minutes. The battery has a peak charging rate of 327 KW, making it compatible with most types of DC fast chargers.

Comfort and Cargo Space

You’re going to want to leave your oversized luggage at home. The 2025 Taycan isn’t designed with a lot of storage space. Most of any available cargo room is taken up by the back seat. If you upgrade the model, you can even add a third rear seat.

Porsche has included a ton of tech in the interior, even with the standard trim package. You can also add in a heated steering wheel, massaging front seats, and four-zone climate control to help ensure everyone’s comfort.

Connectivity and Infotainment

When it comes to the number of screens inside the 2025 Taycan, it’s hard to keep count. A 16.8-inch curved display takes care of your gauges. Two center screens control the impressive infotainment system. The top 10.9-inch screen is integrated into the dash and provides access to the EV’s important functions. The smaller 8.4-inch lower screen lets you adjust the climate settings, keep an eye on battery status, and access the navigation system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features are also controlled on the bottom screen.

You can open and close the trunk with the touch of a button. The control is on the center, lower display. You also have plenty of charge ports, and the front seat passenger can enjoy a 10.9-inch personal screen. Back-seat passengers have access to an optional 5.9-inch touchscreen. This comes with controls for the rear HVAC system, along with seat heating.

Available Warranties

Porche’s warranty is robust and compatible with other luxury automakers. The primary difference is with the warranty for the electrical components. While Tesla’s warranty coverage is unlimited, Porshe’s caps it at 100,000 miles or eight years. There’s also a limited warranty covering four years or 50,000 miles.

All in all, the 2025 Porsche Taycan lives up to and exceeds expectations.

2025 Mazda CX-70 Review

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is a new addition to the auto manufacturer’s lineup. The body style and features are similar to last year’s CX-90, and this can get a little confusing. However, there are a few differences. The CX-70 has a new wheel design and blacked-out exterior trim, and Amazon Alexa is integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment system. You also get an underfloor storage compartment in the rear cargo area.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

If you go with the nonhybrid CX-70, you get a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine. You can go from 0 to 60 mph in a little over six seconds. The basic trim comes with a 280-horsepower motor, and the S trims take this up a notch. You get 340 hp in the higher-grade trims.

An eight-speed transmission is standard in all 2025 CX-70 models. However, the transmission can be a little slow to respond to commands from the steering wheel. This can lead to jerky movements that can quickly annoy some drivers. However, the suspension is smooth and handles turns with ease, even at slightly higher speeds.

Fuel Economy

Meanwhile, Mazda hasn’t released the fuel economy ratings for the 2025 CX-70. Going off of the CX-90, you should expect to average around 25 mpg. If you want to boast fuel economy, check out the CX-70 hybrid versions. Adding in the electric range can produce significant fuel savings. However, fuel economy in hybrid models will vary from driver to driver. The ratings depend on how often the driver switches to electric mode.

Mazda holds true to its recent trend in upscale interior designs with the 2025 CX-70. From appearances, the CX-70 has an interior design similar to the 2024 CX-90. However, you can upgrade to a red leather interior.

The primary difference is the lack of third-row seating. The CX-70 only comes with a second row for passengers. Last year’s CX-90 boasted a third row, but it was also a little tight. Without the third row, the cabin feels roomier, and most consumers will appreciate the added cargo space. With that being said, the CX-90 does have a folding third row, so all-in-all storage space is basically the same between the two SUV models.

However, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 does come with a larger underfloor storage compartment, and this can be a game changer for some consumers.

Driver Assist, Infotainment, and Connectivity

Mazda has stocked all 2025 CX-70 models with i-Activsense technology. This suite of driver-assist features includes blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking, to name a few.

The cluster of digital gauges is nothing new for previous Mazda owners. However, the 12.3-inch digital display does come with Mazda’s latest software. Don’t expect a touchscreen. The display comes with a control knob and only a few buttons. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on all CX-70 models. Mazda has also added Amazon Alexa to all models, regardless of trim.

Even though it’s hard to overlook the similarities between the 2025 Mazda CX-70 and last year’s CX-90, there are enough additions to make the SUV stand out.

The used vehicle market is booming, and for good reasons. Consumers can find great deals on used SUVs, and some are even under limited warranties. If you want all the bells and whistles you get with an ungraded trim, you can find a fully loaded used SUV for a fraction of the new vehicle price. However, before rushing off to the car dealership, it’s important to note that not all used SUVs are equal.

Here’s a look at some of the best-used 3-row SUVs to help ensure you get the most for your money.

2022 Acura MDX

The 2022 Acura MDX has a lot to offer, especially if safety is a priority. The 3-row SUV has 5 NHTSA stars for safety. The SUV is also a HIS top safety pick for 2022. The engine gives drivers plenty of oomph. You can go from 0 to 60 mph in around seven seconds. You’re not going to beat a sports car, but it’s plenty of power to get you moving. A 12.3-inch display simplifies the controls and gives the interior a clean look.

While the first and second rows have plenty of room, third-row passengers may feel a little cramped. Some drivers also note the lane-centering function is a little inconsistent. Fuel economy is not good either.

2020 Honda Pilot

The Pilot is Honda’s largest SUV and is a great option for anyone frequently hauling around multiple passengers. Think of your child’s soccer team. Depending on the trim, the third row can seat anywhere from seven to eight passengers. You also have plenty of room in the second row. If you love driver assist features, the 2020 Honda Pilot delivers. If performance is what drives you, look for a used Honda Pilot SUV with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

In comparison tests, the 2020 Pilot edged out ahead of the Toyota Highlander. This is primarily due to the roomy third row. The primary downside to the 2022 Pilot is the relatively slow infotainment system, but it’s hardly a deal breaker.

2020 Infiniti QX60

You can get a luxury 3-row SUV at an affordable price. The 2020 Infiniti QX50 blends safety with quiet luxury. Wood and soft fabrics give the interior a luxurious feel. Getting into the third row is easy, and this is always a bonus. Third-row passengers aren’t climbing over those in the second row. Best of all, the Infiniti QX60 is noticeably less expensive than other comparable luxury models.

However, sometimes, a more affordable price comes with free trade-offs. The infotainment system is missing Android Auto and Apply CarPlay. The 2020 QX60 also doesn’t come with a ton of driver-assist functions.

2020-2022 Toyota Highlander

The Highlander has a great reliability score and excellent value ratings. The Toyota Highlander also comes with plenty of driver-assist functions. The third row is roomy, but you can find other SUVs with a little more space. With that being said, the Highlander does provide plenty of value for your money.

Why GM is getting rid of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Car enthusiasts will still be surprised to learn that General Motors isn’t going to budge on their bizarre decision to ditch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. According to GM, safety is one of the main reasons it moved away from the world’s leading smartphone monitoring systems.

GM feels quite comfortable with its decision, citing that it would replace Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with its infotainment system, which will be developed in collaboration with tech giant Google. This move will see GM’s upcoming electric vehicles with a different infotainment system than what users have been accustomed to.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is the first of the many EVs to embrace the new move GM plans to unveil into the market. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer addresses the safety issue often posed when drivers experience challenges when using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

While the internet comments haven’t been kind with GM’s decision to move away from Apple and Android, GM believes that the former infotainment system posed several issues. Some key issues must be addressed include poor connections, slow responses, dropped connections, and poor rendering. Usually, when drivers experience these issues, they reach their phones, which distracts them from focusing on the road. GM believes that such challenges render the phone mirroring systems ineffective.

Timmothy Babbit, GM’s head of product and infotainment, also argues in favor of ditching Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, citing the roads will be much safer without these systems in their EVs. However, Babbit admits that the theory hasn’t been proven and tested in the real world.

The new Google-based system, dubbed ‘Ultifi,’ will operate differently since it won’t rely on drivers’ phones. Instead, it will have Google-integrated apps running on its own.

For instance, Google Maps will be the main navigation app installed on Ultifi. One of the main perks of the new infotainment system is that users can log into the system and personalize it as desired. Drivers will also be able to control the system using voice controls. This eliminates the need to check their phones, a safety issue that distracted drivers on the roads.

Compatibility issues are another reason GM is considering axing down Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GM notes that performance issues with these systems have affected their quality scores among their customers. Customers who experience challenges using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto point fingers at GM, which shouldn’t be the case. Babbit asserts that the phone manufacturers should be the ones to take the blame for such compatibility issues.

Rumor also has it that GM generally wants data. Changing their infotainment system is one way to ensure they have full control of the data they collect from their users. Initially, all the data they had belonged to Apple. So, it’s a massive gain for GM if they can get Apple out of the way.

While GM has reasons to eliminate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, how their customers will respond to such changes is a risky gamble. GM can’t confidently predict that their customers will love the idea of removing an infotainment system they have been used to for some time now.

Part two of the series gave us an overview of the benefits of these regulations to you, the consumer. Now we’ll cover some great information you need to know about tires, but didn’t know to ask about.

Types of Tires

There are 4 basic types of tires based on use:

  • Summer tires are warm-weather tires that are not designed to operate in temperatures below freezing, or on snow and ice.
  • Winter tires are more effective in deep snow.
  • All-season tires can handle a variety of road conditions. They have some mud and snow capabilities.
  • All-terrain tires are mainly used on four-wheel drive vehicles. They provide a good compromise between on-road driving and off-road capability.

Tire Size

When you go to buy a tire, the single most important thing to consider is the size. As consumers, the main thing we need to know is what size is meant to go on our vehicle, which is found on the “Tire and Loading Information” label, located on the post to the rear of the drivers door.

Tire Ratings

Surprisingly, there is a Uniform Tire Quality Grading System. When a tire manufacturer creates a new tire brand it gets a rating which is then stamped on sidewall of every tire of that type. Tires are graded on 3 things: Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature.

Treadware

Someone picks a standard, called a “Control Tire,” and all the other tires are measured against it. For example if the control is 100, then a tire rated 300 should last three times as long. Of the tires currently manufactured, only 15% are below 200, while a tiny 2% are rated above 600.

Traction

Traction is the measure of how well a tire stops on wet pavement. The ratings categories are AA, A, B, and C. Only 4 kinds of tires currently made are rated a C. Incidently, 77% of tires made are simply rated A.

Temperature

Temperature is the rating of how well a tire deals with heat. While the title seems self evident, we bet you weren’t aware that heat was even an issue in tires. The reality is that tires are not made of one single material, but bands of different materials assembled into a single continuous unit. When rolling, the weight of the car puts compression on the tire. While one obvious place of heat is where the rubber meets the road, all the materials rub against each other creating friction everywhere in the tire.

Factors include how the tire was made, how long its continously used, and how much load is put onto the tire. From highest to lowest, a tire’s resistance to heat is graded as “A”, “B”, or “C”. More than half of all tires are rated “A.”

AGE!!!

On the topic of Tire Buying, Age is a massive issue. This probably surprises you, as The Kicker is the only place we’ve found anyone talking about this topic. Believe it or not, tire age is a big deal.

Age is not about how long your tires last. Rubber is a petrolium product. It weakens over time, even when not being used. Tire manufacturers often get stuck with stock there didn’t move. Current regulations don’t allow tire makers to sell stock that’s out of date. That’s right, tires have an experiation date.

A few years ago, a car maker (we won’t name), struck a deal with a tire maker (we won’t name), to install old tires on new cars. The tires were techinically new because they’d never been driven a single mile. However, they had been sitting on the shelf in a factory somewhere getting old. These old made tires became technically unsafe about a year after the new cars were sold.

Imagine buying a brand new car and having a tire blow out on you. Well, regulations have change on that as well, and both the car company and the tire manufacturer received their well deserved black eye with the public. Never the less. You need to know about tires and age, so here we go.

A big factor in how fast tires age is the season changes in temperature. For this reason, an older tire might be safe, but it depends on how it was stored and you simply have no way of knowing.

Most of the time your tread will wear out before you tire ages out. However, if you buy an older car with low miles…say it was a second vehicle or only used on weekends…you will want to check the tires age. This goes double for you if you live in a sunny climate where tires are explosed to a lot of sunlight.

There are three main ways drivers become aware of aged tires. First you take it to get checked and a salesman jumps on the oportunity to sell you a new tire. Second, your tire warning light keeps coming on to let you know a tire is under inflated. You keep adding air but can’t find a reason for the leak. Third, you practice regular tire maintenance. Now experts will recomend a monthly inspection, but seriously, as important as tires are to your safety, lets be realistic. At The Kicker Blog, we’d rather you check your tires twice a year and actually do it, than tell you to check them 12 times a year and have you do it never.

A Tip!!!

Here’s the real answer. About every time you get an oil change get your tires rotated. The company that sells you tires should throw this in for free as they have a vested interest in knowing the condition of your tires. Let them inspect your tires and extend their life at the same time.

2024 Lincoln Nautilus Review

Automakers will always brag about their performance and how superfast SUVs ramp up their engines from 0-60 mph in seconds. However, the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus boasts of something different. The 2024 Lincoln offers a gliding and tranquil drive that delivers maximum comfort to its users. The midsized SUV prioritizes comfort above anything else.

What’s Under the Hood?

The 2024 non-hybrid Lincoln Nautilus features a standard 250-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, similar to its first-generation SUV. It’s a turbocharged, four-cylinder engine with 275 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the hybrid versions offer more power thanks to the 100 kW electric motor that boots it to deliver up to 310 horsepower. The 330-hp twin-turbo V-6 was dropped in the 2024 Nautilus, ensuring the luxury crossover offers better fuel economy.

2024 Nautilus Interior Design

Real-world mpg is expected to be about 22 city/highway in this case. The Nautilus hybrid might be approximately 37 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The fuel economy values will be updated once the official figures have been released.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2024 Nautilus also features the standard Co-Pilot360 suite driver assistance feature. This offers an exceptional hands-free experience on the road. 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Review

Fans of Toyota’s Highlander often have one complaint. They wish the SUV had a little more room for their family and friends. Toyota proves it is listening with the introduction of the 2024 Grand Highlander. The Grand Highlander comes with many of the features you love, along with some new ones, and an extender body. The longer body offers more room for passengers and storage. You can also pick from three trims, XLE, Limited, and Platinum.

Performance

You can choose between three different powertrains. The standard (XLE) comes with a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.4-liter 265 horsepower turbocharged engine with either an 8-speed or all-wheel drive transmission.

Eco-conscious drivers can go with the Grand Highlander Hybrid, which comes with dual electric 2.5-liter four-cylinder motors for 243 horsepower. If you decide to go all out with the Highlander Hybrid Max, the turbocharged 2.4-liter 362 horsepower electric motor gives you up to 400 pound-feet of torque.

How quickly can you go from 0 to 60? The Grand Highlander hits 60 mph in 7 seconds but the Hybrid Max will take you there in around 5.6 seconds.

The primary downside is the steering can feel a little light in both the gas and electric models.

Fuel Economy

With gas prices rising, fuel economy is on the minds of most consumers. Toyota is attempting to address this concern with its hybrid and nonhybrid models. The 2024 nonhybrid Grand Highlander gets around 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Hybrid Max is more fuel-efficient with an average of 26 mpg in city driving but drops below the nonhybrid model at 27 mpg on the freeway.

The non-hybrid model can boost fuel efficiency up to 29 mpg on freeways at speeds around 75 mph.

Comfort and Cargo Space

The 2024 Grand Highlander lives up to its name. ‘Grand’ is a nod to the SUV’s elongated body. The added space is instantly noticed in the roomy third row. Three adults can sit comfortably with plenty of legroom. The redesigned symmetrical dashboard makes it easier for drivers to find the controls and adds a touch of class to the interior.

Some of the included features on all Grand Highlander models are heated front seats, a power-operated liftgate, window shades in the second row, along with USB and power outlets placed throughout the cabin. Even third-row passengers can easily plug their devices in.

The second row can be fitted with either captain’s chairs or a bench, depending on the number of passengers. Both seating options are standard with all three trims.

Infotainment

All 2024 Grand Highlanders come standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. This isn’t the largest one on the market, but it is a nice size. A 7-inch digital display is also standard. However, the Limited and Platinum trims come with a larger 12.3-inch display.

Wireless smartphone charging pads are also standard in all Toyota Grand Highlanders. If you decide to go with the Limited or Platinum trims, you can enjoy listening to your favorite tracks on an 11-speaker JBL stereo system.
